Tutoring HINDI

Learning Hindi seems at first sight a daunting task, because the Devanagri script is so foreign to our familiar roman script.

 

It is in fact a very logical system and once you have cracked the code, you will be able to virtually read everything in Hindi.

 

I like starting my students with writing directly, because they can then become more  independent with their self learning through reading.

 

I also give them a solid base of grammar, because I felt this is what I never managed to get from my own Hindi tutors. I am a linguist and consider that if you master a structure, you are able to produce so many sentences and you can become more confident during communicative practice.

 

When my students are well prepared with their writing and grammar foundation, then I generally send them, ready for conversation to my own mentor (who knows about grammar!), because she is native and very competent; there is nothing better than a native to learn how to communicate in the foreign language.
